It's Mosquito Season
It is the time of year when Horry County Beekeepers need to update colony locations on the county GPS. Horry County this year will be applying NILED contact spray, when possible, with trucks and when necessary with aircraft.

Horry County and Myrtle Beach SC will begin Mosquito Spraying in the next few month seasonal mosquito spraying. As heavy rains and abundance of standing water accumulate the spraying will be more frequent. This information is for you to evaluate your locations. Horry County will be primarily truck spray application when possible (aerial when necessary) while truck spraying will the main operating system for Myrtle Beach.
Aerial Spraying will be done approximately 30 minutes before and after sunset. They do not spray in the morning or after dark. Truck spraying, however, may go to 11pm. All spraying will be done as weather permits.
It is important to monitor a map that will delineate the areas to be sprayed. It is your responsibility to check the map and take precautions when necessary.

The spray is a insecticide contact spray. Any insect that is flying will be affected or killed.
The spray is micro droplet and begins to break down 6 hours after application, degrades to half potency after 12 hours and is completely harmless after 24 hours.
Total acres sprayed each time vary from 10K to more than 30K

- If you need to protect your hives here are some suggestions.
- Be aware of the spraying program
- If your area is to be sprayed…Cover your hives with wet burlap or heavy cloth to capture the insecticide.
- Uncover the hives in the morning.
- You may want to contain your bees in the hive. Be sure to allow for suitable ventilation so they do not die from heat.
If you live in a subdivision in Myrtle Beach City Limits…you will need to contact Myrtle Beach Authorities to determine their truck spraying timing. They spray after dark. They have 5 zones which are sprayed each week (weather permitting). It is your responsibility to contact them to know your zone and register your hives.
